Chapter recognized out of more than 400 chapters nationwide

SALT LAKE CITY May 1, 2008 – The American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC, www.aapc.com), the nation’s largest education and credentialing association for medical coders, has named the Charlottesville, Va., AAPC chapter as the 2007 Local Chapter of the Year.

The Charlottesville, Va., chapter was selected based on a point system outlined for all local chapters where chapters earn points for fulfilling expectations from the national office, including going above and beyond in providing member benefits, offering seminars and recruiting members.

According to Lori Strauss, RN, MSA, CPC, CPC-H, CHC, 2007 chapter president, Charlottesville, Va., the chapter officers set winning this award as their goal right when their terms began. The chapter’s accomplishments in 2007 include holding a celebration for state coders’ day, producing monthly newsletters, providing networking opportunities and holding membership drives.

The chapter will receive complimentary AAPC National Conference registration for its officers, recognition at the conference and acknowledgment in AAPC’s member magazine, “Coding Edge.”

“The Charlottesville, Virginia, chapter has gone above and beyond chapter requirements in so many ways,” said Marti Johnson, AAPC’s director of local chapter support. “The chapter is every bit deserving of this award, recognizing its accomplishments in 2007.”

Chapters that wish to be considered for the award must submit qualification information and exhibit superior performance in meeting the criteria for the award. There were 10 chapter finalists this year.

This marks the 12th year that this award has been given. Previous winning chapters include the Loma Linda, Calif., chapter in 2006, and the Kansas City, Mo., chapter in 2005.
