Medicare FFS Q&A Addresses H1N1

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) updated, Oct. 14, its Medicare Fee-for-Service (FFS) Q&As to address H1N1-related questions circling among the health care industry.
CMS added “Section 1: Urgent Preparedness Initiative: The H1N1 Influenza Pandemic” to its Emergency and Disaster-Related Policies and Procedures That May be Implemented Without Section 1135 Waivers fact sheet.
Many of the questions answered in Section 1 pertain to H1N1 influenza pandemic vaccination coding and billing.
Of note is a question closely related to the recent National Emergency Declaration on H1N1 signed, Oct. 24, by President Obama. Here’s the Q&A:
Question: Will Medicare payment policy change if the H1N1 vaccine is released under an emergency utilized authorization (EUA) under section 564 of the Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act?
Answer: No.
