CMS Launches Redesigned Medicare Coverage Database

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced Jan. 27 the launching of its newly redesigned Medicare Coverage Database (MCD) website.

The MCD contains all current National Coverage Determinations (NCDs) and Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), local articles, proposed coverage decisions, National Coverage Analyses (NCAs), Coding Analyses for Labs (CALs), Medicine Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee (MEDCAC) proceedings, and Medicare coverage guidance documents.

Contractors, providers and other health care professionals can use the website to locate the coverage documents they need using a variety of search options:

  • Indexes
  • Reports
  • Downloads

    It sound like Congress is once again asking the little people to foot the bill for services that are needed by a lot of elderly and disabled people. The elderly have worked all there life and are still being asked to pay taxes and copayments for services that they have paid for by working all their lives and now we do not even take care of our elderly. A lot of elderly people would not be able to stay at home if it wasn’t for the Home Health Progam. They would have to go to nursing homes which is a fear for a lot of elderly people. The cure for the problem should not be that the people who need the service are punished for the people who are defrauding the program. It’s like we go from one extreme to another which is not solving any of the problems. The elderly should have FREE health care if it wasn’t for them they would not have the money they have now for Social Security.

    We need to speak to congress and let them know that it is not fair that the elderly and those with disabilty suffer. They need to know that they are the ones who need to take a pay cut, and give that money to help fund the care for those who have blazed the trail for the Social Security funds. The elderly should not suffer because of budget cuts. They need to find the money elsewhere.

    This update completely messed up SMART, the NCD software our hospital uses. Edits have links that go directly to the page you need. Now it goes to the search page. A search can give hundreds of hits, and the navigation system at the site is slow and clunky.
    Total fail, IMO…

    It’s about time this was revised. It was almost imposible to find an LCD previously. The new edition is much better!
