DME Suppliers: Get Paid for These HCPCS Codes
February 11th, 2011
Medicare contractors and carriers will now pay suppliers of durable medical equipment (DME) enrolled with the National Supplier Clearinghouse (NSC) for certain replacement parts, accessories, and supplies for implanted prosthetic devices represented by three HCPCS Level II codes.
The three codes that are now separately billable to Part A/B Medicare administrative contractors (MACs) and carriers (under guidelines established by CR5917 and CR6573) are:
L8693 Auditory osseointegrated device abutment, any length, replacement only
Q0478 Power adapter for use with electric or electric/pneumatic ventricular assist device, vehicle type
Q0479 Power module for use with electric/pneumatic ventricular assist device, replacement only
Claims for dates of service on or after Jan. 1, submitted prior to this change will be reprocessed automatically. Also effective Jan. 1, DME MACs will deny claims containing codes L8693, Q0478, or Q0479.
