Physician’s Practice: How Your Medical Practice Can Avoid ICD-10 Pitfalls

The upcoming ICD-10 changeover has most of us a little anxious as we wait for the final date for implementation and then the actual implementation. Rhonda Buckholtz, CPC, CPMA, CPC-I, CGSC, COBGC, CPEDC, CENTC AAPC’s VP of ICD-10 training and education, recently spoke with Physician’s Practice for an ICD-10 related article titled “How Your Medical Practice Can Avoid ICD-10 Pitfalls”.
A possible concern for practices and ICD-10 lies with worker’s compensation claims that will be still be required to use ICD-9 codes. “Right now if we have a patient that comes in, and you think it’s workers’ comp, and you bill it and it’s not workers’ comp, you just resubmit it,” says Buckholtz. “Now, you’ve got to find a way in your practice management system to change the code.”
