Meet Advanced Diagnostic Imaging Accreditation Requirements

Attention physicians, non-physician practitioners (NPPs), and independent diagnostic testing facilities (IDTF) supplying imaging services and submitting Medicare claims for the technical component (TC) of advanced diagnostic imaging (ADI) procedures: MLN Matters SE1122 provides assistance to help you meet the accreditation requirements established in Section 135 (a) of the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act of 2008 (MIPPA).

For you to furnish the TC of ADI services for Medicare beneficiaries, you must be accredited by Jan. 1, 2012 to submit claims with a date of service on or after Jan. 1, 2012.

New Specialty Code 95 Won’t See Light

Just days before specialty code 95 Advanced diagnostic imaging accreditation was to go into effect, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) decided to eliminate it. CMS notified contractors of this change June 24 in Transmittal 2248. The new code was supposed to go into effect July 1.

New MLN Products Answer DMEPOS Accreditation Questions

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) posted on its website April 18 two new provider education publications pertaining to Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS).

On the CMS Outreach and Education > MLN General Information > Spotlight webpage, in the Downloads section, you can view, download or print the following new resources:

  • Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) Quality Standards is designed to provide education on DMEPOS quality standards for Medicare deemed Accreditation Organizations (AOs) for DMEPOS suppliers.
  • The Basics of Durable Medical Equipment, Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Supplies (DMEPOS) Accreditation is a fact sheet designed to provide education on the DMEPOS accreditation requirements, the types of providers who are exempt, and the process for becoming accredited.

AAAASF Approved as Accreditation Organization

Facilities seeking to furnish physical therapy and speech-language pathology services to Medicare and Medicaid patients in an outpatient setting have a new sheriff in town. JCAHO Expands Ambulatory Organizations’ Accrediting Process

The Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Health Organizations (JCAHO) announced Sept. 7 plans to expand the process of accrediting ambulatory health care organizations to those who are also interested in electing the Primary Care Home option.
