ASGE Recommends Widening Scope for GI Screenings

New guidelines from the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) back the American College of Gastroenterology’s recently updated practice guidelines for colorectal cancer screening in African Americans beginning at age 45. Other minority groups, such as Hispanics and Native Americans, also are recommended for early detection.

Virtual Colon Cancer Tests Remain Noncovered

In a May 11 decision memo for screening computed tomography colonography (CTC) for colorectal cancer, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has determined that the evidence is inadequate to conclude that CTC is an appropriate colorectal cancer screening test and it remains noncovered.
