New Online Map Eases Access to CMS Orgs

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently posted a new interactive Provider Compliance Group Interactive Map aimed to allow providers to determine state and territory-specific organizations providing Medicare auditing and compliance services in each state, including their contact information, email, and websites.

The map includes the CMS divisions responsible for contractors and definitions of various contractors and their roles. If you roll your cursor over a state, applicable information for that state is listed, along with state-specific information.

Incident-to Rx Billing Clarified

In what situations a pharmacy can bill when it’s dispensing certain drugs has been clarified in Transmittal 2312, posted by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The transmittal also cautions physicians on not billing what the pharmacy has dispensed.

Reprocess Customized Prosthetic Device Claims

Since April 4, the Medicare claims processing system has been erroneously denying claims for certain custom prosthetic devices. Durable medical equipment Medicare administrative contractors (DME MACs) have been instructed to reprocess any claims for custom prosthetic devices (identified by the “L” series of HCPCS Level II codes) that were inappropriately denied. If suppliers want to be paid this year, however, they’ll have to do the leg work. (more…)

DME MACs to Stop Covering Voice Prostheses Claims

Providers will soon need to submit claims for tracheo-esophageal voice prostheses somewhere other than to their Durable Medical Equipment Medicare Administrative Contractor (DME MAC).

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is changing the claims filing jurisdiction for HCPCS Level II code L8509 Tracheo-esophageal voice prosthesis, inserted by a licensed health care provider, any type. Effective Oct. 1, 2010, such claims should be billed to the applicable Part A/B MAC or Part B carrier.

RACs Update CMS-Approved Audit Issues

Connolly Healthcare, recovery audit contractor (RAC) for region C, recently updated its list of audit issues approved by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and DCS Healthcare, region A RAC, posted new issues for the first time. The lists of issues under review give providers insight into what they should be looking for in their own internal audits. (more…)
