Eligible professionals (EPs), hospitals, and critical access hospitals (CAHs) can now get a sneak peak at the full set of proposed clinical quality measures (CQMs) for stage 2 of the Medicare Electronic Health Record (EHR) Incentive Programs. Under a Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM), the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) proposes to use these CQMs beginning in 2014 to measure EPs’, eligible hospitals’, and CAHs’ ability to use EHRs to provide high-quality health care.
You can view the proposed CQMs and submit feedback online until May 7, 2012.

According to an Integrated Healthcare Strategies survey, hospital staff can expect to see a pay increase for 2012, as such:
- Hospital executives salaries - 2.5 percent increase
- Middle management – 2.8 percent
- Staff – 2.6 percent

If you are a physician who furnishes services to Medicare patients in a primary care geographic health professional shortage area (HPSA) as designated by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), you are eligible for a 10 percent bonus payment for services provided between Jan. 1, 2012 and Dec. 31, 2012. Psychiatrists who are designated in a geographic mental health HPSA are also eligible for the 10 percent bonus only if their area does NOT already have a geographic primary care HPSA designation.
